Guide Training
The value of experience is not in seeing much,
but in seeing wisely.
William Osle
What captivates guests on safari? What makes them come back? Is it all just about ticking off wildlife sightings? Or is it rather the passion and dedication of their guide who opens the guests eyes for the world around them, who links them to their environment and acts as the bridge between their world and what is out there in the bush? Is it not the guide, who creates life-changing experiences and aquires a multi-generational clientele for a lodge and reserve, after all?
Although formal qualifications and official standards, worked out by industry leaders, have uplifted the general level of knowledge in guiding tremendously, it needs more than book knowledge to be a good guide.
Our highest value in guiding is the ethical treatment of our surroundings, which includes the respectful interaction with the natural world and also with guests. Soft skills, such as a true attunement with the environment, a sensitive way of treating flora and fauna, respect of all aspects of nature and ethical approaches are key factors which make guiding in the end sustainable and which differentiate a good guide from a "jeep-jockey".
THE ETHICAL APPROACH is a training programme which focuses on honing and strengthening the soft skills of guides in terms of the ethical treatment of their surroundings.
Based on individual assessments of the status quo, the training provides theoretical and practical guidance for improvement in areas which need more focus. The goal is to ready guides for creating not only memorable, but also ethical, safe and sustainable experiences. In short: The best possible experiences for their guests.
Because in the end we have only this one world, and we believe it is every nature guides duty to be a conservationist, in one way, or the other.
