THE ETHICAL APPROACH

Guide Training:
The Ethical Approach

In today’s safari industry, ethical guiding is under growing pressure. The demand for instant gratification - whether it is chasing the perfect photo or ticking animals off a checklist - too often takes precedence over the well-being of wildlife and the safety of guests. We've witnessed firsthand how guiding, when stripped of integrity, becomes exploitative rather than inspiring. It was precisely these experiences - across diverse regions of Africa - that compelled us to develop a guide training program rooted in ethics and awareness. We've seen the challenges on the ground, worked with guides from various backgrounds, and recognised a critical gap: a need for a more conscious, sustainable approach to guiding.

So, what truly captivates guests on safari? What brings them back, time and again? It’s not just the wildlife - it is the guide. A guide who opens their eyes to the unseen connections in nature, who reads the landscape with respect, and who becomes the bridge between the human world and the wilderness. These are the guides who create transformative experiences and cultivate loyalty across generations.

While formal qualifications and national standards have elevated technical knowledge in the field, guiding is far more than facts and field manuals. True guiding demands presence, humility, and a deep ethical commitment—to wildlife, to ecosystems, and to people.

Our training emphasises this. We focus on the soft skills: sensitivity to animal behaviour, attunement with nature, respect for the land and its communities, and a guiding philosophy that puts ethics before ego. In the long run, these are the qualities that sustain not only a career, but the wilderness itself. This is what separates a genuine guide from a mere "jeep jockey."

The Training Programme

THE ETHICAL APPROACH is a training programme designed to strengthen the often-overlooked soft skills essential to responsible guiding. At its core, it focuses on deepening a guide’s awareness of their impact - on wildlife, ecosystems, and the guest experience.

Each training begins with a careful assessment of the current guiding practices. From there, we offer tailored theoretical and practical support to help guides grow where it matters most. The goal: to empower guides to create not only unforgettable safaris, but ones that are ethical, safe, and truly sustainable

Because we believe every nature guide has a role to play in conservation - in one way or another.
